What’s happening with Java?

Last year, Oracle announced changes to how Java is licensed for use in businesses. That announcement caused confusion and questions such as “can my company keep using our Java based software”, “do I have to pay for something now”, and sometimes “what is Java, anyway”? We’d like to clear up the confusion.

Changing Recommendations For Password Security

A few days ago, Microsoft announced that it’s considering dropping password expirations from its security baseline in Windows 10. NIST’s Authentication and Lifecycle Management guidelines recommend against password expiration:

“Verifiers SHOULD NOT require memorized secrets to be changed arbitrarily (e.g., periodically).”

For years, security recommendations included regular password changes, at least every quarter.

Prepare for Microsoft Teams Upgrades

In 2017, Microsoft announced that Teams is replacing Skype for Business.

Teams is Microsoft’s new collaboration tool. While mostly associated with instant messaging, Teams also provides shared workspaces for groups of employees, meetings, and external connections.
